Delta-Q Technologies Receives North American Regulatory Approvals for Sealed 1kW Battery Charger for Electric Vehicle (EV) Applications

BURNABY, BC - December 19th, 2002 - Delta-Q Technologies announced its QuiQ™ battery charger for EV and utility vehicle has been granted regulatory approval for North American use. The QuiQ™ charger is a revolutionary design for the industrial battery charger category offering lower overall cost, high efficiency, universal input voltage, small size, light weight, sealed construction, unity power factor correction, and microprocessor control.

Approved to CSA (C22.2 No. 107.2) and UL (UL 1564) standards, the QuiQ™ charger can be plugged in to any AC outlet worldwide with no need for special configuration. For manufacturers of EVs selling globally, this charger reduces the number of required models from over 30, down to just one for each battery pack voltage, significantly reducing their procurement and inventory costs. Five 1kW QuiQ™ models are available to support 24V, 36V, 42V, 48V and 72V battery packs. The charger has also been thoroughly tested to CE standards for sale into Europe, with CE approval expected shortly.

The charger’s microprocessor control constantly monitors a multitude of variables including charger operation, battery state, input voltage as well as charger internal and battery temperature. This “intelligent monitoring” delivers improved charging performance regardless of external conditions. Industry leading power conversion efficiency allows for a fully sealed enclosure and natural convection cooling without internal fans or open enclosures found in competitive products.
