High Efficiency
High efficiency is important for a battery charger since losses during power conversion do not charge the battery, but are instead wasted as heat. This is important for two reasons. First, more efficient power electronics products use less input power to deliver the same output, reducing the operating cost of the system. Second, highly efficient products can be fully sealed to allow on-board operation and maximize resistance to water and contaminants. Traditional low frequency battery chargers use air vents or fans in their enclosure to dissipate excess heat, but this allows outside contaminants in. All Delta-Q power conversion products offer typical efficiencies above 90% by using advanced components and power topologies, and techniques such as zero voltage switching (ZVT). Convective cooling is a key design consideration.
